On May 5, 2015, the Henry George Birthplace, Archive, and Historical Research Center held its Grand Opening.  The event kicked off at 4 pm with a welcome address by Birthplace Director Alexandra Lough followed by several speeches.

The award-winning journalist and author Mary Pilon discussed her new book, The Monopolists: Obsession, Fury, and Scandal Behind the World’s Favorite Board Game (Bloomsbury, 2015). Birthplace Senior Researcher Ed Dodson discussed the causes of the 2008 financial crisis and Edward Nell, the former Malcolm B. Smith Professor of Economics at the New School of Social Research, gave a macro-analysis of the U.S. economy.

Nell’s speech was followed by a tribute from the Office of Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter by Joan Decker, Records Commission of the City of Philadelphia.

The Philadelphia Free Press reported on the event in an article written by staff reporter Nicole Contosta.
